The Park Bond passes.
Thanks to you, your support, and mountains of grassroots efforts, the park bond (SB 5) was pulled over the finish line in a nail-biter vote late Friday night/early Saturday morning.
The park bond will now be placed on the June 2018 ballot for the voters to decide upon. At $4 billion, with $725 million for park starved communities, this will be the largest natural resources and conservation package, and the largest targeted investment in underserved communities, in the state’s history.
Also passed was funding for the Urban Greening Program as part of Cap and Trade expenditures.
A huge thank you also goes out to Senate pro Tem Kevin de León and Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia, who were real champions in the success of SB 5. The bill would simply not have moved forward without all of their efforts, as well as the entire Los Angeles delegation of Democrats who in the end all supported the bill. Please take a minute to reach out through social media, phone or email to let your legislator know how much their leadership on parks is appreciated. As we move forward into next steps, a campaign will be ramping up to ensure the Park Bond’s success in June. We’ll continue to need your help, so stay tuned for more.
